Marvin Lynn is professor and dean in the School of Education and Human Development at the University of Colorado Denver. Over the past decade, he has also served as dean at Indiana University South Bend and Portland State University. He has actively served on a number of local, state, and national boards including the Tigard-Tualatin School District in Oregon where he was an elected school board member, the Board of the Carnegie Project for the Education Doctorate and AACTE’s Board of Directors where he also serves as secretary to the Board.
Lynn is one of the leading scholars in the field of race and education and is quoted regularly in local, national, and international news stories. His research focuses on the work and lives of Black male teachers in the United States, outlines best practices for recruiting and retaining diverse educators, and examines how Critical Race Theory, as a discipline, can be applied to the field of education. He is the lead editor of The Handbook of Critical Race Theory in Education, which is in its second edition. The popular handbook features scholarship by the most prolific critical race researchers in the fields of education and the law. His scholarship has been recognized by the American Educational Research Association, the Critical Race Studies in Education Association, and the University of the Free State in South Africa.
